For the fourth consecutive year, Rose Taylor, gbp’s Finance and Business Administrator, dedicated a week of her time to volunteer with the Pendeford SDA Church, bringing a much-needed Summer Activities programme to life for 30 children aged 5-14 years of age.
Rose took a brief break from her demanding role to lead this initiative, which has become a beacon of support for local families. This free summer programme offered to the children/ parents is funded by the church and donations from the volunteering staff.
The summer programme provided free snacks and lunch each day and offered a vibrant mix of activities, including cooking, creative arts, bike riding, outdoor games, and lessons on making positive choices, culminating in a refreshing day out at Habberley Trail in Kidderminster which was enjoyed by the children last year and so we decided to go to the same place again this year.
Rose reflected on the experience, highlighting the joy and camaraderie among the children, who came from diverse backgrounds yet bonded over the shared fun. Parents expressed their gratitude, noting that the programme provided a welcome break from the digital world and offered their children a safe, creative, and engaging environment.
Rose’s involvement in this initiative underscores gbp’s commitment to community support through its volunteering scheme. She shared her appreciation for the opportunity to make a positive impact on the families, as well as her gratitude towards gbp for encouraging employees to contribute to such meaningful causes.
While the week was undoubtedly exhausting with dealing and feeding 30 very energetic children it is very rewarding however we have not been able to honour their request of extending it to a 2 week programme at the moment. The request in itself highlights the success of the programme!!
Thank you Rose for all that you do in your community.
