As we near the end of gbp’s 13 Days of Christmas Giving, today we shine a light on Sudden Sam, a charity with a deeply personal story and a powerful mission.
Sudden Sam was founded in 2023 to honour the memory of Sam Mercer, who tragically passed away unexpectedly at the age of just 35. Created by Sam’s family, the charity exists to support families who, like them, have faced the sudden loss of a loved one. Its mission is twofold: to provide both emotional and financial support and to foster greater understanding and empathy in the community through public awareness.
This meaningful cause was nominated by Hannah Dolan, Senior Consultant at gbp consult. Hannah shares her personal connection to the charity:
“Sam was one of my close friend’s elder brothers. He was just 35 when he passed away suddenly. Although his life was cut short, Sam made sure he lived it to the fullest. He was a passionate advocate for mental health and firmly believed in the power of community. For Sam, these two were deeply connected — a strong, supportive community could positively impact mental well-being.”
Sam’s legacy lives on through the work of Sudden Sam, which is making a real difference for families facing unimaginable loss. We’re proud to support such an inspiring initiative as part of our Christmas giving campaign.
